This machine would be used to build the new inner tracking system for the upgraded ALICE detector at CERN. Over two years, an IBS team delivered seven machines to CERN construction teams based across the globe.

In 2019 the detector was successfully built and the CERN teams are now starting to assemble them in two half-barrel structures. The final installation of the detector in the experimental cavern is planned for next summer.

In Oct 2019 a piece of the new detector was shipped to CERN on a passenger flight from San Franscico. Read more.
